As you know, due to the aim of getting the N9 DLNA-certified, developers had to introduce some restrictions.

One of the most annoying limitation from an end user point of view is that you can’t share arbitrary videos or music which you may have put on your device.

Another, though minor, issue is that it’s not possible to change the name shown in UPnP or DLNA clients on the network.

If your phone is on PR1.2, TweakUp enables you to tweak some of the N9's media sharing options, such as


- Enabling/disabling audio transcoding
- Setting the name of the device on the network
- Sharing of all media files, even those without DLNA profiles
- Enabling/disabling uploading
- Setting a home access point

[MeeGo Harmattan] MediaKeys : use the volume keys to control music player !

MediaKeys allows you to use the volume keys to to pause/resume a song, and to skip to the previous or the next one (only with the default Music app).

You can switch between volume keys and media keys by pressing both VolumeUp and VolumeDown at the same time or from the GUI. From the GUI you can also set the multimedia function for both keys.

With version 0.2.0 was added the long press recognition, so you can use a short press to change the volume and a long press for multimedia actions.

Music Shelf is a MeeGo music player that aims to be simple, easy, and good-looking. It is the proud winner of the 1st WeTab Qt App Challenge in category Entertainment with 67% of votes.

PS : There are bad news for N900 users, though. Maemo5 PR1.3 is not capable of running the app smoothly, don't expect it then, The N900 MeeGo Community Edition, however, runs the app just fine.

By the way, Music Shelf is powered by the Qt incarnation of MediaBox technology. You can expect first releases for N900CE and Harmattan soon. And on the WeTab you can already download Music Shelf version 1.0 in the WeTab Market for free.

[MeeGo Harmattan] Boxee Remote for N9 !

Boxee is a home-theater PC software that you can connect to your TV and stream videos/music from other computers and play them from a single entry. Furthermore it is a social network powered home theater application, you can post what you are watching on Twitter or Facebook and watch videos your friends posted on Twitter or Facebook.

You have two options to use Boxee, you can either buy a Boxee Box or make your own Boxee as presented in Boxee’s website (http://boxee.tv) and by downloading Boxee application. For the first choice you need this application because of its powerful NFC and proximity features, otherwise Boxee Box comes with its own remote, for the second choice, you need to have this application if you posses one of the coolest phones ever, the Nokia N9.

[MeeGo Harmattan] Spotify Officially released !

Spotify has released a mobile app for Harmattan, allowing Nokia N9 to access the streaming music service. 

It supports streaming over WiFi, EDGE and 3G, as well as support for offline playlists where tracks are cached in the N9′s own storage for playback when you’re without a data connection.

Ps : it's developed and maintained by NOKIA in cooperation with Spotify !

[MeeGo Harmattan] Beatronome : a metronome on your pocket now !

Beatronome is a metronome application allowing all different kinds of bars and speeds. You can toggle the type of click, being it fourths up to sixteenths, also triplets are allowed. Presets can be stored to allow quick access to regularly used configurations. The tap mode allows identifying the speed of something you just listen to.

[MeeGo Harmattan] VLC media player for Nokia N9 is here !

Work in progress

VLC for N9 is a work-in-progress project.
There are some major known pending issues, in particular:

• The user interface is currently optimized for desktop computers. It is extremely tedious to use with a small touchscreen.
• Hardware-accelerated video decoding is not supported (however, color space conversion and scaling are hardware-accelerated). So there may be performance issues especially with high-res videos.
• Screen blanking is not preempted. It is hoped that this will be resolved in the coming days.

Facts

Which devices does this run on?

 

This should run on all Nokia N9 devices. However this was only tested on an unlocked device.

Nokia N950 devices are also supported.

How do I install this on my device?

 

Download here the libvlc5 and vlc-player packages to your device, and install them with this command:

dpkg -i libvlc5_*.deb vlc-player_*.deb

If you do not know how to proceed with that, you should probably not be using prereleases software, sorry. Help is needed to complete this project.
 

How do I start the software?

 

Once installed succesfully, there should be a VLC traffic cone icon in the application launcher. Alternatively, advanced users can also start VLC from the command line as on desktop computers.

Is this the real VLC media player?

 

Yes. This is the same VLC software as you would run on your computer. Almost all of the features found in the desktop VLC, particularly in the Linux desktop version of VLC, are included.

Which version VLC is this?

 

This is based on VLC version 1.2.0 pre-releases, pending the official release of VLC 1.2.0.

Where can I get the source code?

 

All of the code for VLC on Nokia N9 has been included in the official VLC media player project at VideoLAN already. Nevertheless, you can follow the source link to the left.

[MeeGo Harmattan] Jamify : Discover free music !

Jamify is a browser/streamer/explorer for the Jamendo service. Jamendo is an on-line service which provides music under the creative common license, free to listen to as much as your heart desire without any registration if you don't want to.




Main Features:

[MeeGo Harmattan] CuteTunes - MP3Tunes Client !

MP3Tunes is a(nother) music streaming service. Somewhat similar to Google Music, the user uploads their collection to the server and then streams to their devices.

This is a client for the service. The user is given 2GB of free storage (you can request for a free 10GB upgrade.) to which they can upload music and videos. Premium options are also available.

This being a first release, it would be nothing short of a miracle if it was not jam packed full of bugs.

MusiKloud is a Soundcloud application for MeeGo Harmattan N9/N950 allowing search, download and playback a song ! When downloading, you can choose either the 128kb MP3 stream, or the original format ;)

FlowPlayer is a little music player, the only think you can do is scroll the album list, select one and start playing.

Alpha release of Open Media Player to replace N900 original media player !

MohammadAG has jut announced a release of an early development version of  Open Media Player that'll replace the default N900 media player !

Pymp : youtube to mp3 converter and video downloader !

Pymp allows you to enter urls from youtube and other video hosting sites (google, yahoo...) and then dowlaod
the videos from there and convert them to mp3 if desired.

based on the script youtube-dl which is a downloader for videos from certain sites (youtube.com, google video, yahoo video ...). Therefor it is not specialized on one. This program only relies on the availability of the video host. Which is much better than that of the conversion sites which also dont really function with mobile browsers.

For N900 cutting and normalizing the audio is only available if normalize and sox would be available.

Pymp needs python (pyqt), mplayer and lame installed.

Pymp is more intended for desktop computers but can also run on the N900. But it is recommend to keep the number of simultaneous downloads and conversions low.

Mp3gain : mp3 files normalizer !

MP3Gain analyzes and adjusts mp3 files so that they have the same volume.

 MP3Gain does not just do peak normalization, as many normalizers do. Instead, it does some statistical analysis (using the replaygain algorithm) to determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear.

 MP3Gain can adjust the volume in a completely lossless way by modifying the mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding. This works with all mp3 players, i.e. no support for a special tag is required.

MP3Gain can also add replaygain compatible tags to mp3 files.

E.F.F : Empty Frequencies Finder !

E.F.F. (Empty Frequencies Finder) is a utility that lets you choose a range (only 87.5 FM - 108.0 FM) to scan from, for empty/unused frequencies, using the reciever of N900 and headphones as its antenna. For example you can use this utility to find empty frequencies, so you can easily transmit from your N900 to your radio. If you are not satisfied with the emptiness of the frequency scanning results you can select between modes, to find a better one.
